I LOVE THE PIETASTERS!!!!

Some Pie Backround

The Pietasters have been together since 1990. They came together in college and originally called themselves The Slugs but changed their name to The Pietasters. I believe there might have been another band that had trade marked the name forcing them to change theirs'. They have preserved their original name however with the Slug Tone Record label that they organize and have released two full length albums and a 7" called Soul Sammich as well as T-shirts and other fun stuff.

The band signed on to the Moon Ska Record Label in 1995 and released Oolooloo followed by Strapped in 1996. Comply came out on Slug Tone but was made in association with Moon Ska. The Pie Pack, which contained Comply, could only be purchased through Slug Tone. The Pietasters signed on with Hellcat Records (a division of Epitaph) in early 1997 and released Willis in October 1997.

The band has gone through some member changes through the years. They lost their original trumpet player, Carlos Linares, when he went to law school and has been replaced by Toby Hanson. Carol continues to play with the band on occasion and still writes songs for the band. Chris Watt has been replaced by Todd Eckhardt as the bassist and Eric Raecke was replaced by Alan Makranzy as the band's sax player.

Paul Ackerman left the band to play with Skinnerbox.
Some Pie Facts

The word "Pietaster" is British slang for a Fat Ass.

The chant from the crowd heard during Drinking and Driving on Strapped is BSSC, short for the Beer Swilling Skinhead Crew. A group of fun loving skinheads from the DC area.

Steve Jackson's wife Caroline Boutwell-Jackson played the farfisa in the early days of the band. She stopped playing for a while but has come back to play on Willis.

The Pietasters have challenged the Goldfinger to a fight on more than one occassion. This was spawned after a show they played together in New York City.

The silver suit that Steve wears from time to time was made by his wife Caroline.

Toby used to be a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at VA Tech.

Todd used to work in a morgue.

Mike Crum (who's name is heard before Movin' On Up on Strapped Live) is a long time friend of the band from the Virginia Tech days. At one of the 1st shows the band did at the vegetarian South Main Cafe in Blacksburg, Mike threw around baby dolls. Before the show, Mike replaced the dolls' stuffing with chicken livers and intestines.

Toby started the ska section at the Tower Records in Vienna Virginia.

The Pietasters:
